Importance of Regular Vison Exams
The American Optometic Association (AOA) describes the importance of periodic eye and vision examinations as part of a preventive health care plan.
AOA guide to eye exam frequency.
Most patients only consider an eye exam necessary when their vision worsens, however, the health of the eye is also a critical component. Many eye and vision problems have no obvious signs or symptoms. As a result, individuals are often unaware that problems exist.
Early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems are important for maintaining good vision and eye health, and when possible, preventing vision loss.

Your eye doctor may recommend more frequent exams if you are in a higher-risk category for eye disease or complications. If you receive an injury to your eye or notice a change in your vision , you should contact your eye care professional immediately.
At the completion of the examination, your optometrist will assess and evaluate the results to determine a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan. He or she will discuss with you the nature of any visual or eye health problems found and explain available treatment options.
